Our clients include auction houses such as Sotheby’s, Christie's, and Bonhams as well as museums, private clubs, insurance companies, corporate collections, and many collectors and art galleries.
We have extensive experience working on a wide variety of paintings from Old Masters to Contemporary, and family heirlooms. Each painting is assessed and treated appropriately for its specific needs and with a focus on the artist’s intent and the owner’s desires. In every instance we work with materials that are museum grade and reversible. Our treatments are minimally invasive to ensure that the painting is presented as it was intended and is preserved for future generations.
We collaborate with conservators of paper, sculpture, and textiles to assis our clients with their diverse collections. We will help you navigate the conservation process by working closely with trusted framers, art shippers, and fine art photographers.

Mark's passion for old pictures which has led to a career restoring paintings. At Pictura, his work involves cleaning, retouching, and varnishing pictures as well as writing condition and treatment reports. Mark has a BA in art history from Vassar College which has led to over three decades in New York's art trade. He has honed his skills at three of New York's prominent conservation studios, most recently at Simon Parkes Art Conservation. His early training included apprenticeships with both painting and paper conservators as well as work with the Strauss Center for Conservation and Technical Studies at Harvard University. Historic painting materials and techniques are his expertise: He has lectured on these topics at Vassar College, New York University, and at the Grand Central Atelier. For each conservation project, Mark brings a deep understanding for the material object and a respect for it's history. After decades of experience with thousands of paintings, he devises minimally invasive treatments and executes them safely and tastefully. More than once he has been called a "magician" by clients - appropriate as he has dabbled in prestidigitation! Mark is also a talented painter and enjoys using classical techniques in his original works and master copies.
He is happy be a co-founder of Pictura Art Conservation with his skilled colleagues.
